About
This auditorium was inaugurated in May 1993 to hold the Rencontres Musicales d'Evian. The Grange au lac integrates seamlessly into its environment thanks to the forest of larch trees from the Hotel Ermitage domain that overlooks the Hotel Royal.
Halfway between a Savoyard barn and a Russian dacha, it is built entirely out of wood, red cedar and Jura pine, a material that time slowly patinates. It can hold 1,200 spectators and 200 musicians and enjoys exceptionally good acoustic qualities. The design of this extraordinary hall, born of the friendship between the great cellist Mstislav Rostropovitch and Antoine Riboud, Chairman and CEO of the Danone Company, was entrusted to the architect Patrick Bouchain assisted by the BAOS firm.
